Mode of Anti-viral Action
A likely mechanism for the anti-viral properties of Geranium maculatum
Geranium maculatum contains a group of naturally occurring chemicals called polyphenols which are known to bind to proteins and disrupt their structures.
The HIV-1 virus has a protein coat called a capsid which protects the virus particle. Embedded in this protein overcoat are protein/sugar combinations called “glyco-proteins”. These sugar-proteins are an integral part of the protein coat and also function as an essential component enabling viral attachment to the outside of the human cell which leads to penetration and infection.
The polyphenols (and most probably several other chemicals) contained in G. maculatum can bind to these glyco-proteins disrupting their structure, resulting in the destruction of the virus’ protective coat and killing or disabling the virus. If the virus is not killed outright, the disrupted structure of the glyco-proteins prevents the virus from attaching to, penetrating and infecting a human cell.
It should be appreciated that the anti-viral activity of G. maculatum, cannot be accounted for simply in terms of polyphenol content, as G. maculatum contains a number of other biologically active anti-viral constituents including flavonoids, hydroxybenzoic acids (including tannic acid, gallic acid and Gallo tannins), condensed tannins (proanthocyanidins/chromans) such as catechins, and glycosides such as querceten.

I went to Shopper's Drug Mart at Yonge & Eglinton in Toronto, spotted your naturally-sourced product and thought I would give it a try. Here's what I found.
I believe that your traditional herbal medicine is the best because as a mild astringent it seems to get to the root of the problem and eliminate it once and for all. Also because it's clear you can see what's going on
before your eyes.

I received a sample of your product at a recent tradeshow. As a sufferer of cold sores for more than 30 years, I've tried everything from prescription medication (Zovirax) to Abreva to Lipactin and even tried the
"natural" remedy of using ice cubes to reduce the swelling. Some of it worked - okay but it still took a long time to heal and in some cases, it wasn't pleasant. I even bought this product called Intercept CS but my
recent cold sore came on while I was away so I couldn't try it to see if it was effective.
I did bring the sample of Korner's Cold Sore Remedy because it was small enough to fit in my purse and I always bring something just in case. Well, it worked wonderfully. The swelling went down quite quickly and it didn't sting or smell medicinal like the rest. I also appreciate that it is made from natural products.
